SHAKESPEARE &
ACTING WITH SIMON SCARDIFIELD

WORKSHOP

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

On December 9-10, at Werkstatt Akademie in Kadıköy, we hosted a workshop titled "Shakespeare and Acting with Simon Scardifield," lasting for a total of 14 hours over two days. Simon conducted a workshop on Shakespeare and English acting approaches, during which participants explored acting methods by working on scenes from four different texts by Shakespeare. The workshop covered personal experiences in performing Shakespeare, text analysis, and how to extract meanings between the lines. Simon provided valuable insights into the world of acting and Shakespearean plays throughout this engaging and educational event.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Simon Scardifield, an actor, writer, translator, and educator, pursued language studies at the University of Cambridge before receiving training from Philippe Gaulier (Le Jeu, Melodrama, Mask). He continued his education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, focusing on Clowning, Shakespeare, Chekhov, and tragedy acting with Gaulier. During his time at Guildhall, he played the roles of Romeo in Irina Brown's production and Eric in Stephen Daldry's "An Inspector Calls."

At the Royal Shakespeare Company, Scardifield worked with director Adrian Noble in "Twelfth Night" (as Sebastian) and with Ian Brown in the world premiere of Richard Nelson's "Goodnight Children Everywhere." Since then, he has collaborated with directors such as Lucy Bailey, Nancy Meckler (Shared Experience), Laurence Boswell, Mark Down, Stephen Unwin, Mehmet Ergen, David Farr, Maria Aberg, Philip Franks, and Simon Stephens.

Simon Scardifield has approximately 11 works to his name and is proficient in translating plays directly from French, Spanish, and German. In addition to his artistic endeavors, he has served as an instructor at prominent theatre schools in the UK and currently teaches Shakespeare classes at the Central School of Speech & Drama.
